Camping. So simple, so fun. And sometimes, or at least to start with, it can be intimidating. Outdoors Geek is on a mission to make camping more accessible to everyone.

Especially those who might feel a little intimidated.

And from talking to thousands of parents, one of the more intimidating things can be camping with kids. With that in mind, here is a sampling of advice from the Geek.....

It doesn't have to be perfect - quit obsessing. No seriously, And even in Colorado or Wyoming your not likely going to be very far away from a place where you could get what you need if you happened to forget something.

Get a tent big enough to stand up and pull your pants up in. Hey, it's a real luxury to be able to stand up in a tent and talk or socialize or whatever else. Especially if the weather turns rainy for a few hours. I recommend that any family of four get a 6 person tent and even a smaller family will appreciate the head room. My wife and I often take a 6 person tent just for the two of us so we have enough room for two cots and a table inside.

Get a tent big enough to play in - ...or you might just want to sleep late. Another good reason to have a larger tent so when the kids wake up early they have a safe place to play.

Bring what the kids know - not every toy, but let them bring (choose) one thing even if your not thrilled about it....like electronics. Yes, even electronics. We get the chance to love the outdoors by getting a chance to experience the outdoors in a positive light. At the beginning, the best way to do this is by making it comfortable and familiar. Once the kids are begging to go back, you can set up some ground rules that will be an easier sacrifice for them to make.

Take it easy - you don't have to go far or worry about it being "authentic". Just get out there and see what happens. We think you will be pleasantly surprised....

Do something different - like let the kids decide between three activities like hiking to a lake, a mountain top, or a hot spring. The power of choice is a powerful thing.

Eat hot dogs, marsh mellows, and baked beans. OK, it's not Vegan and it may even be "bad" for you but go ahead and live a little!
