CHECK OUT THE FUNCTIONALITY:
SOS: Use this function In the event of a life threatening or other critical emergency to notify emergency services of your GPS location and that you need assistance. The GEOS International Emergency Response Center alerts the appropriate agencies worldwide – for example contacting 9-1-1 responders in North America and 1-1-2 responders in Europe.
Help: In the event of a non-life threatening emergency, you can use this function to notify your personal contacts that you need assistance. Additional SPOT Assist services can be purchased and programmed to your Help button as well. When activated with SPOT Assist, the Help button will notify professional services either on the land or water. SPOT has partnered with national service providers to offer non-life threatening assistance.
Check-in/OK: This feature allows you to let your friends and family know that all is OK with a pre-programmed message along with your GPS location. With a push of a button a message is sent via email or SMS to up to 10 pre-determined contacts and your waypoint is stored in your SPOT account for later reference. Your stored waypoints can be easily integrated into a SPOT Shared Page or SPOT Adventure account.
Custom Message: This feature allows you to let your friends and family now receive a custom message along with your GPS location with a push of a button. Use this feature as a secondary OK message or transfer your personal help alert to this message function if you are using a SPOT Assist service on your Help button.
Track Progress: This feature allows you to send and save your location and allow contacts to track your progress in near real time using Google Maps. With your SPOT account you have the ability to set up a SPOT Shared Page which allows you to show your SPOT GPS locations to others on a Google Map.
*Batteries will be provided but make sure you bring 4 backup lithium AAA batteries.*

The SPOT worked perfectly and exactly as described for my 100 mile race at the Salt Flats in early May. I was able to send messages to my wife and my friend and family were able to track me using the tracking link. Outdoors Geek made this whole process effortless for me. They set up the device and sent test messages to be sure everything was working correctly. All I had to do was pick up the device (I worked close enough that I chose to pick it up rather than have it mailed), turn it on and attach it to my pack. It worked perfectly for 31 hours of continuous use. I highly recommend the SPOT and Outdoors Geek!

We don’t hike in remote places often enough to warrant purchasing a satellite device. This rental was perfect! Great price, amazing customer support. We talked on the phone to get details and make sure there were some available. After ordering we were able to communicate by email easily and quickly when one of our contacts had a weird cell service that wasn’t receiving the texts. Outdoor Geek added a different address and got it working for us. They even shipped it early enough that it arrived 2 days before we needed it but still only charged us for our actual trip days. Was great for the kids to be able to track us on the map and battery lasted the full 3.5 days we needed it. Overall just a wonderful experience

I was recently on a solo off-road motorcycle ride in the Georgia mountains in areas where cell service was sketchy. The GPS unit worked great and was the if I had a serious incident. Is will definitely get it again and definitely from Outdoors Geek. The customer service is the best!!!

Main thing was peace of mind. GPS not terribly accurate: search and rescue guy said that Garmin GPS is much more accurate and family who was tracking said that it seemed a little off (like I backtracked, which I didn’t). Still the Spot would have gotten search and rescue close enough for true emergency I believe and it’s cheaper than inReach products that would have tracked more accurately. OutddorsGeek had good service and communication. A drop box for this product would have made end-of-trip planning a little easier. Staff and service was great! Thank you!

The service was great. The Spot is slightly confusing to use (it’s not clear why the lights blink for so long), and you need to remember what messages you set up for each button. But it was great to have it for an off-grid bike event, so that everyone knew where I was. Outdoors Geek sent it to us quickly, and the return was easy.

As for the tracker itself, simple to use and connected as designed. Only regret is I should have used it more to plot our route after the trip in the Eastern Weminuche/Rio Grande
