Just returned from a 3 night, 1 person trip in the Gifford Pinchot backcountry. I haven’t backpacked in ages and renting this package from Outdoors Geek allowed me to a) focus on the trip and not endlessly researching/buying gear and 2) trust that high quality products would be made available.
I was very very impressed with the quality of the gear. This is expedition-worthy gear. Highlights – the Zulu pack fit like a glove and made the carry a (relative) breeze. The Marmot bag is the best I’ve ever used. The Jetboil system is ultra light and ultra cool. The Sawyer Squeeze is as easy as it gets when it comes to filtration duty.
In hindsight, given the elevation I was at, I probably should have contacted OG and asked for an insulated pad and/or higher rating sleeping bag. That’s on me and I need to do a little more elevation research ahead of time.
Everything was incredibly clean, organized, and pretty much exactly as described by the fine folks at Outdoors Geek. I am a touch on the OCD side and I was impressed. Even the tent states appeared to have been cleaned.
This was a great experience and allowed me to sample gear without dropping the coin or commitment for new stuff. I am pretty much going be an OG evangelist for my outdoorsy comrades and will coming back for more, next time around!

I rented the backpacking bundle for a 3 day trip this weekend. I requested the bundle for Thursday, it was slated to arrive Wednesday and it actually arrived Monday…from Colorado to Maryland. The equipment was spotless, and functioned exactly as expected. Over $1,000 worth of outdoor equipment for $225. I had a blast on the Appalachian Trail with this stuff!
