Since 1916, the American people have entrusted the National Park Service with the care of their national parks.
With the help of volunteers and park partners, we are proud to safeguard these more than 400 places and to share their stories with more than 275 million visitors every year.
This August 26th we can all say thank you to those who protect America’s most unique and significant sites, lake shores, and preserves. Congress established the National Park Service in 1916. At that time, 35 national parks were to make up the national park system. Today, that number has grown to 397!
The National Park Foundation cordially invites you to the biggest birthday bash of the year.
What is now called Founders Day serves as an annual reminder of the incredible gift that these national parks have to offer. We encourage you to take the time to support the parks by sending a birthday gift in honor of your favorite national park.
